More People I Don’t Know

Here’s today’s picture:

These are some people I don’t know at a restaurant who’s name I can’t remember.  I suppose no one will ever really know who these people are because they’re too blurry.  Stupid blurry people.  You know something?  They weren’t blurry before I took the picture.  And afterwards?  Also not blurry.  Bastards.

Cooling

Here’s today’s picture:

I quite like the colors in this picture.  I took it at dusk about a week ago when it was snowing here in DC.  There was some steam spilling out of a grate and as it rose it diffused the warm light from the street lamps and I quite liked how this picture came out with the warm colors filling the left side of the frame while the right side of the frame have the cool, evening colors and even the green streetlights that reflect on the road.

America

Here’s today’s picture:

One of my goals from the moment I purchased my camera was to be able to tell a story with a single picture. I think that this picture does a good job of that - but it’s hard for me to be sure. I know what I was trying to capture when I took the picture and when I cropped it but I would like to know what everyone else thinks. Yes, this is the first time I’m officially soliciting comments. What story does this picture tell you?

Edit: I’ve cropped a different version of the above image.  I think I like the new version a little better.  Here it is.

Nice Asses

Here’s today’s picture:

This is a shot from the recent Auto Show I mentioned in tonight’s earlier post. These are the tail ends of a selection of Ford Mustangs. I had another shot that I thought was better but it was pretty blurry and crappy. I need to be a better photographer. Some day….

Anyway, some of you may be wondering why this week didn’t feature any pictures of the day. Well… that’s my own fault. I got out of the habit. Bad job me. I’m trying to get back into it now so here you are.

Edit: Wow, I just noticed that in this picture you can really see how the jpeg compression fucks with the image quality. Here’s the original, untouched image. Take a look at the reds and the greens on the second and third cars. It’s very obvious on the smaller, compressed image. Ugly as sin, too. Also, here’s a copy of the image in full quality and with the color correction done.

People I Don’t Know

Here’s today’s picture:

I don’t know who these three guys are, but they’re waiting for the light to change at a crosswalk so they can cross the street.  It’s a crop from a larger image.  If you want to see the original it’s right here.

Lamp Gate

Here’s today’s picture:

Here’s a picture of a lamp across the street from the Watergate hotel. I like the reflection of the light in the puddle and I also like the three distinct patterns and four distinct textures in the image. It’s nothing spectacular but it’s a picture that I quite like.

Focus on Family

Here’s today’s picture:

This was taken at Kate’s apartment during that family dinner. Sometimes, when you’re hanging out with the family, you need to keep your attention focused on what’s really important. I mean, you can talk to your family any time, but how often do you get free wine? Exactly.

Oh yes, here’s today’s bonus picture courtesy of Anton:

I don’t know what type of camera he used or what the settings were, but it’s a picture he took in Greece. He also asked if I edit my pictures. As a rule I don’t, but on the Big Teeth photo I enhanced it a little to bring out the reds and browns. I’ll use photo editing software to crop images as needed, though.

The Evil Fire!!!

Here’s today’s picture:

Here’s a stupid picture from dinner at my cousin Katherine’s apartment. It’s her gas fireplace (which works well - perhaps a little too well) and it looks like a burning fire face. I know what you’re thinking - burning fire face? I had some other, much better pictures but I just thought that this one was funny. It’s even got a little evil nose and a cracked cinder mustache. I wonder if it needs burning glasses of fire in order to legally drive? Anyway, this is a crop from a larger image. The original just has more of the fireplace and it’s really rather boring. Except for the burning fire face. That thing’s just freaking awesome.

Nothing Interesting

Here’s today’s picture - it’s not very interesting:

I like the contrast between the warm and cool colors in this picture. It’s not very good but I’m in a bit of a hurry, so here it is.

Lonely Phone

Here’s today’s picture:

I like this picture because, well, it’s a lonely phone in the middle of an empty parking lot. Back in the day pay phones like this used to be hubs of communication. I can remember waiting on line to use a pay phone back when I was a kid. Now they’re anachronistic reminders of days gone by. How did we live without cell phones? I seem to remember living rather well, but I must be applying my “good ‘ole days” filter. Anyway, I quite like this shot even though it’s far from perfect.
